Wenyan Chen has been engaged in the study and research of nonlinear partial differential equations, focusing on the global dynamics of the reaction-diffusion equations in population dynamics. Until now, she is the Principle Investigator for one National Natural Science Foundation of China. In 2009, the project that she as the third persons has involved to complete, was awarded the second prize of natural science for science outstanding achievement of the ministry of education of higher school (Ming-xin Wang, Pei-hu Shi, Hui-ling Li, Wen-yan Chen).
